Gynecomastia is understood as a benign unilateral or bilateral enlargement of the male mammary gland (gland body). It frequently involves a pseudogynecomastia (an increase in the fat cell mass). This case is also called lipomastia and is usually a result of overweight or weakened skin tissue. Most of these enlarged breasts can generally be corrected with liposuction. In rare cases, surgical removal of the glandular tissue may be necessary. A surgical correction generally produces a clearly visible and permanent result. This leaves men completely free to go "topless", wear figure-hugging clothing or even enjoy sport. |
